The front office of the Archdiocese of Chicago Archives & Records are open Monday through Friday, 9:00-4:45. We are closed holidays, Holy Days, and the week between Christmas and New Year's. Anyone wishing to request a copy of his student or sacramental record is welcome to drop by during regular business hours to fill out the appropriate forms.
The office will be closed Tuesday, June 20.
The Archives researcher room is open by appointment only, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday, 9:30-12:30 and 1:30-4:30. No new records will be pulled after 4:00 PM. Our office is closed to researchers between December 22 and January 20. The archival materials in the Archives & Records Center are housed in closed stacks. An archivist will pull all records for researchers. Unprocessed collections and records less than twenty-five years old are generally restricted. The Chancellor can waive restrictions. Researchers using archival collections are asked to donate a copy of their work (books, articles, class papers, documentary, etc.) to the Archives and Records Center. A detailed reading room policy is placed in the reference area and must be read by users. Please call the Archivist at 312-534-4420 to schedule a research visit.
Location: The Archives & Records Center is located between the Kennedy Expressway (90/94) and Des Plaines Street. There are public parking lots on Monroe Street north, east, and west of the building. The nearest “L” stop (Blue Line) is at the corner of Clinton and Congress Streets. The office is handicap accessible.
Available Resources: The research room of the archives is located on the second floor of the building. Basic reference works such as dictionaries, handbooks, guides, bibliographies, directories, and other reference materials are kept in this room, along with finding aids for processed collections, and a card catalog indexing the oldest documents in the archives. Readers are encouraged to ask for help and advice. Archivists are available to provide assistance in the reading room, although the archivist will not conduct the research.
Copy Fees: Duplication services are available for the fee of $.25 per copy. Simple scans of photographs or other materials that can be completed in-house are available for a fee of $10.00. The United States copyright laws apply to all duplication materials.
