Archives and Records Center

Internship and volunteer services have extensive value for our programs and projects in the Archdiocese of Chicago Archives & Records Center. Interns and volunteers gain knowledge and experience in the areas of archives, public history, and other related fields. Assigned duties will depend on your interests, educational background, experience, and the Archives’ needs.


General Inquiries:

Arrangement and Description   

Processing agency or organizational collections.

Arranging photographic collections.

Indexing reference materials.

Creating indexes for sacramental registers.


Preservation    Flattening and cleaning documents.

Sorting and filing photographs using conservation materials.

Preparing records for digitization.


Assisting reference staff in supervising the use of records.

Explaining finding aids and reference tools.

Answering inquires for genealogical information.


Records Management   

Updating the database.

Developing new ways to collect data.

Reviewing records that are up for destruction.

Assisting in the transfer of boxes and documents to the Records Center.
